WIP: Crochet Club 2011 April patterns progress…

I’ve actually had these guys done for a few weeks now, but i’m just getting around to blogging it. They. Are. Gorgeous. Hands down my favorite piece of the mystery blanket so far. (I haven’t gone back in the archives to check, but how many of the pieces have I said this about? :)

Mandala Circle closeup

Don’t you just love all the colors! And the star-flower pattern. And the teensy bit of sparkle that the round of beads gives. <3

Mandala Circles, stackedI’m behind, so a bit of the mystery is gone for me since I know what’s next. That certainly hasn’t taken any of the fun out of the process, though! In this case, it helped me out — I knew that May called for another 2 Mandala Circles, so I went ahead and did those as well. Four Mandala Circles done, 2 for April and 2 for May!

I can’t wait to see what these look like once I’ve blocked all the wrinkles out!

WIP: Crochet Club 2011 March patterns finished!

March: All patterns complete!

A combination of it being so blazing hot & me catching a summer cold have kept me inside & recooperating. Which has resulted in me zooming through the rest of the March patterns, yay!

March: Multi-colored chevrons March: All Corner squares March: All Intarsia Pyramids

The pieces are slightly difficult to photograph in their current state (not blocked and with no ends woven in), since the ends are going every which way & the corners are curling up ridiculously. The only tweaks I made this month were to the bobbles on the chevrons. I switched out the blue Lenpur Linen color for Bubbles, since I hate that linen yarn with a passion! I also think it gives the pieces a nice pop of color amongst all that dark blue and garnet. :)

Layout of the finished pieces so far. I've still got a lot of blank space...

On a lark, I laid out all my finished pieces roughly according to how they’ll go together for the final blanket. I’ve got quite a bit of blank space, still.

On to April…

WIP: Crochet Club 2011 March patterns progress

Slowly but surely, right? That is definitely how i’m finishing this project. It’s by far the most ambitious thing i’ve ever done, and i’m loving the experience. Much thanks, btw to everyone on the Ravelry forum. Y’alls FO pictures are keeping me motivated! Everyone’s pieces look absolutely gorgeous :)

On to the pictures, amiright? I’m about halfway through with the March patterns, thanks to the heat wave we are having right now in NC. Makes me want to stay inside! It’s even too hot for the pool (and if you know me at all, that’s saying something. I <3 the pool so much.)

March: Beaded steps March: Corner squares March: Multi colored chevron

I’ve also started blocking the finished pieces. I’ve been crocheting for a while, but I’ve never done a project that required me to block it afterwards, and i’m kind of astonished at the difference it makes. You can definitely tell in the picture of the beaded steps above — i’ve blocked the piece on the left, but not the one on the right.

Blocking

Four pieces blocked so far… perhaps after March’s patterns are done, I’ll actually start sewing things together!

Blocked patterns (slowly but surely...)

WIP: Crochet Club 2011 February patterns!

February patterns almost done!

Whew! I’ve got a ton of ends to weave in, and some pieces to join together, but the crochet work for February is d-o-n-e DONE. …Only 2 and a half months behind.

I don’t know about the rest of y’all, but I LOVED this month. I’m halfway tempted to put beads on everything I crochet now. Bewtiful :)

And of course, it wouldn’t be one of my projects if there weren’t at least a couple mistakes (that are hopefully only glaring to me). You don’t notice in the waves pieces that I did a row of brown instead of a row of yellow, right?? Because I could SWEAR that Umber is a brown color! Ha. I can also see what everyone was saying on the message boards about the bobbles being not quite in the center of the beaded diamonds. Meh. Thank goodness i’m not that much of a perfectionist, I guess! I’ll definitely know it’s mine :)

This month did burn me out on this project a bit, though. I think i’m gonna take a break and go back to my Pay It Forward projects (that i’ve been neglecting) for a bit before I jump back in to April’s patterns.

ETA: I also just realized that the blue bobbles on the beaded diamond piece are supposed to be Nightshade, not the other linen yarn color. Le sigh.

WIP: Crochet Club 2011 January patterns finally finished!!

January patterns: waves + chevrons January patterns: waves January patterns: chevrons January patterns: corner squares

About a week ago (I suppose, it takes me awhile to get the pictures off my camera & then upload them) I finally finished the January patterns for my Crochet Club creation. Hooray! Of course, since it’s my least favorite thing to do EVER, I left weaving in the ends until last. Just that alone took me a week. Such a tedious task. I’ve decided to leave off blocking anything until it’s time to start sewing motifs together, so I think that buys me another month.

One last look at all of the pretties together:

January patterns: complete! (finally)

I’ve since started on the patterns for February (beading! so excited!) — at first it was tedious, counting out the beads & threading them on. But now that i’m actually crocheting them in, i’m in love. The effect is fantastic.

As always, still plugging away…

Crochet Club progress!

Progress on the Corner pieces Corner square 1 Long Wave Stitch 1

I made a good bit of progress this weekend on my Crochet Club pieces. I’m still behind, but not nearly as much as before! I finished up one of the Long Wave Stitch pieces (which might be my favorite so far), and then finished 3 out of the 4 Corner pieces, and started on the 4th. Those work up really quickly!

I’m still sort of concerned about tension; The Long Wave piece is definitely small, but at least everything so far has been consistently small.

Random aside: I love taking my crochet projects out & working on them In Public. I get into such interesting conversations & meet some nice people that way!

Ack, already so far behind! February patterns came out today, and I just finished the 2nd chevron… so only 6 more January pieces to go :(
I’m also worried about the tension; I made sure to get the gauge squares exactly right, and I used the same hook for the real thing. I measured the first chevron after I’d finished, and it’s so much smaller than what the pattern says it should measure. I’m so far behind already, I didn’t want to redo all that work. I figure as long as the measurements are all consistent within themselves, it should all work out in the end. I suppose it’ll just be a bit smaller throw/hanging than anticipated. Blarg.

Finished my first Chevron motif! It needs to be blocked like whoa, and the ends weaved in, but 1 down! I feel a bit behind, since it’s already February & I have 9 more January motifs to get through… but my yarn was late! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it :)
I am totally loving the cotton glace. It is absolutely gorgeous yarn to work with. Not so much with the linen, however. I love how the colors pop, but the fibers are too loosely twisted, and it’s a pain to crochet with.

Crochet Club 2011!

Box 1 of yarn for the 2011 Crochet Club! The rest of the Crochet Club yarn came today!

I’m so excited to finally be able to get started on this! I signed up for Jane Crowfoot’s 2011 Crochet Club. All the lovely yarn comes up front (I just got the 2nd box of it today!), and then each month from now until mid-year, we get a new set of patterns that each go through a new technique. All the pieces eventually join together, so by the end I’ll have a beautiful throw. Annnnd i’ll definitely keep y’all posted along the way :)
