I have approximately 2 seconds for this today, since it’s apparently Death By Meetings. This song: super-catchy. Has a good beat, i’ll probably add it to my go-to running playlist. Also in case you didn’t recognize the name: Kimbra is the feat. on Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know.

Of Monsters and Men — Little Talks

Got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning (I’m actually blaming it on the rain. What a gloomy day.) I’ve had the horn section from this song stuck in my head off and on & it played on the drive in this AM to perk me up a bit. (Though at second glance, it’s not the cheery tune it seems to be. The lyrics are kinda depressing.)

COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC SIDE NOTE: Because I was supremely curious, I looked up the origin of the phrase ‘got up on the wrong side of the bed’. It comes from a superstition that dates back all the way to the Romans that doing anything ‘left’ is unlucky — eg, putting on your left shoe first, walking into a house left foot first, getting up on the left side of the bed.

Collective Soul — Staring Down

The opinion on the Internets about this album seems to be that “Collective Soul is back!!1!” and I may have to agree. That terrible album after Dosage was so mis that I apparently missed another terrible album after that, since I was so busy ignoring CS. But this: this is good.

Animal Kingdom — Strange Attractor

So these guys are new to me. I keep wanting to call them Animal Collective (because that’s another band?). They’re fun. They sort of remind me of Passion Pit, only with more bass.

Also today is Friday! Friday of a long weekend! Work is pretty much the last place I want to be right now. Happy 3-day weekend Friday!

Some days make it easier than others, but I really do try and approach every day this way. Some days (like Mondays) I need reminding. And some days i’m just brimming over with happiness that it’s good to remember to be thankful for those times. Today is a little bit of both, for me.

For whatever reason, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. (Isn’t that a funny phrase — woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Joe Pug — Deep Dark Wells

I *know* you’ve been wondering: it’s been two full weeks since the new Joe Pug album was released, why hasn’t Sarah commented on it yet?? (Ha. I don’t really believe anyone was waiting for my opinion, but y’all are going to get it anyways.)

I had to listen to the album through several times. And to paraphrase John Green, I fell in love with it the way you fall asleep: slowly, then all at once. I enjoyed Joe Pug’s last album (don’t get me wrong), but it always struck me as a departure from what were my favorite things about him. It was too produced, almost like he was trying too hard. This album returns to what I love about Joe Pug: he tells beautiful stories with his music, quietly & unassuming, but with deceptive heart.
